MyDay® toric contact lens unveiled to practitioners at London event with support from renowned lecturer, Dr Shehzad Naroo

London, United Kingdom, 10th May 2017 — Global contact lens manufacturer, CooperVision, today celebrated the official launch of MyDay® toric, a brand new silicone hydrogel contact lens for patients with astigmatism, at an exclusive London event.

Held at ME London, the event welcomed over 160 industry professionals with an opportunity to find out more about the benefits of the new lens and hear from guest speaker, Dr. Shehzad Naroo. With research interests in cataract and refractive surgery, corneal biomechanics, contact lenses, and the business aspects of UK eye care, Dr. Naroo was perfectly placed to present a valuable presentation on the fitting stability of different soft toric contact lenses and highlighted how in his research he found the Optimised Toric Lens Geometry™ used in the design of the Biofinity® toric helps reduce lens rotation and improve rotational recovery.

Following Dr. Naroo’s presentation, CooperVision showcased MyDay® toric to attendees, highlighting how MyDay® toric brings together everything that eye care professionals need for an unprecedented one-day experience for astigmatic wearers. MyDay® toric with highly breathable Smart Silicone™ chemistry provides unsurpassed comfort and a healthier lens-wearing experience*. Its Optimised Toric Lens Geometry™ offers patients the exceptional vision stability that eye care practitioners have come to expect from Biofinity® toric. Smart Silicone™ chemistry is the technology at the heart of the MyDay® family of lenses and is the perfect combination of three unique features:

  • Long chain silicone molecules: Support efficient oxygen delivery to the cornea. These long chains use less raw silicon than other daily disposable silicone hydrogel lenses, which have shorter silicone chains. This creates more space for hydrophilic components.
  • Molecularly bonded hydrophilic groups: Enhance the compatibility of the hydrophilic and hydrophobic material ingredients. This sustains inherent wettability and facilitates optimal water content.
  • Low cross-link density: Longer silicone chains and increased compatibility between the hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials enable lower cross-link density. This, combined with less raw silicon and increased hydrophilic components help deliver our softest ever silicone hydrogel lens.

To conclude the event a discussion workshop provided the opportunity for practitioners to earn three CET points. Mark Draper, UK Head of Marketing and Professional Services at CooperVision, said “We are delighted to now offer all the benefits of our premium MyDay® lens to those patients with astigmatism, offering them the same soft, comfortable lens-wearing experience, alongside the lens stability and visual acuity they have come to expect from CooperVision’s toric lenses. With an extensive parameter range, we are confident that eye care professionals will now be able to fit even more of their astigmatic patients”.

* Silicone hydrogel is the healthiest soft contact lens material. With higher oxygen permeability than hydrogel materials, silicone hydrogel contact lenses minimise or eliminate hypoxia-related signs and symptoms during lens wear.
